Emergency crews were called to the "fire department incident" at Johnson Controls located at 100 Cumberland Valley Avenue in Waynesboro at 7:23 a.m., according to emergency dispatchers in Franklin County.
"An air chamber rupture," was also reported to the police. They added that the incident is contained to the facility.
Three people were injured, two of whom were airlifted to hospitals, according to dispatchers and witnesses. The extent of their injuries is unknown.
Daily Voice has reached out to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Johnson Controls, and local officials for more information.
A spokesperson from Johnson Controls sent us the following statement:
"The safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority, and we are actively assessing the situation and working with local response teams. We will provide more information as appropriate as we learn more."
A spokesperson from OSHA sent us the following statement:
"I can confirm that OSHA is investigating this incident. The agency has six months to conduct the investigation and release its findings. No further information is available."
